Welcome to Bay Woof, March 2026
In Like a Lion, Out Like a Lab!
Bay Woof turns 19 in this blustery month, having launched our first print edition way back on March 7, 2007. We’ll save the trip down memory lane for our 20th anniversary next year. But our mission - “to support the love and care of our canine companions and enhance the lives that we share with them” - remains as true today as it was then. We’re so grateful to all our readers, supporters, contributors, and editorial team for keeping Bay Woof going for almost two decades, including the move from print to online. It’s been quite a ride - thanks for coming along with us.
Among the writers sharing their woofin’ wisdom with us this month is NICST’s Mark Ruefenachtwhose recap of an experiment with a service dog at Fisherman’s Wharf is sure to leave you smiling. And for even more positivity amid today’s news, don’t miss these inspiring pieces by a trio of rescue warriors: Shelby Hinte of Compassion Without Borders, Liz Wattles with Humane Society North Bay, and Lynne Tingle of The Milo Foundation.
Of course, March’s pack of columnists is also springing forward with a variety of fresh tips and insights. Dig into meatier matters with Nose for News, Good Dog!, Ask Dr. Dog, Shelter Zone, Commission Tails, and the Monthly Woof, and don’t forget Mr. Smarty Pants and Red and Howling to add a little sweetness to your day.
Thanks for growing up with us, dear Bay Woofers. In fact, let’s plan right now to make it to 20 together. If you’d like to help us get there, check out all the ways you could support that effort here. And happy spring!
Gratefully yours,
– Rocket
