Homegrown Wisdom: New Program Offers Free Help for Common Dog Problems

For 35 years, Wonder Dog Rescue has worked to save all types of small dogs in northern and central California and to rehome them in the Bay Area. Some of these dogs have medical conditions that can initially be serious, but others just need time and attention to manage more minor things like ear infections, allergies, or mange.
At Wonder Dog, we know that, with all of the love and companionship our pets provide, dog ownership can still be hard and options for care can be expensive. In our years of rescue work, we have seen so many dogs surrendered to shelters because of medical or behavioral issues that could have been solved with the right help.
That’s why we’re excited about our new program, Homegrown Wisdom, which is designed to provide free assistance and support for common issues people may have with their pets. We know that, like ours, every rescue organization receives daily pleas for help so we are actively working to create a program that can respond in larger ways than smaller rescues are able to provide on their own. We hope to grow this movement through community and mentorship so if you’re interested in learning more read on.

Help Grow the Program By Volunteering
If you’re an experienced dog owner or trainer and are willing to learn, we encourage you to sign up to serve as a volunteer foster or mentor to help us reach more people and their pets. We’re also looking for a volunteer to update our web page. To volunteer or learn more, please email us or contact us here.
We’re excited about the potential for Homegrown Wisdom and hope you are, too. Working together, we can provide the help needed to keep more dogs out of shelters and in their loving homes where they belong.
