  • More than 80% of dogs older than age three have active dental disease. The most common doggy dental problems are periodontal disease and fractured teeth.

  • The word Beagle may have come from the French word bégueule, combining “open throat" from the French word bayer and "mouth" from the word gueule. Or from the Gaelic word beag for small. Or from the German word begele, meaning to scold. It's also possible the term came from the French word beugler, which means to bellow. Take your pick, Beagle fans.

  • The only dog to win the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show three years in a row (1907-1909) was a Smooth Fox Terrier named Warren Remedy.

  • British writer and humorist Jerome K. Jerome (1859–1927) once said, "They [dogs] never talk about themselves, but listen to you while you talk about yourself, and keep up an appearance of being interested in the conversation."

  • The Vizsla is a Hungarian breed known for its golden-rust coat, similar to the color of a bread crust. The Hungarian word for the color is sarga.
