• Nooking is the act of a dog - often a puppy or young adult - sucking, kneading, or gently mouthing a soft object, a self-soothing behavior much like thumb-sucking among children.

• Veterinarians in British Columbia are seeing an increase in cases of dogs accidentally overdosing on drugs and warn that this is an issue now affecting much of North America. In one case, a woman was walking her Husky who picked up a napkin on the ground and ate it, only to discover it was contaminated with cocaine. Fortunately, the dog survived after being treated by a veterinarian.

• According to PetMD, if your dog lets out a heavy sigh in an unfamiliar or stressful environment, it could be a sign of stress. But if your dog appears relaxed, a sigh might mean relaxation, contentment, or boredom.

• Feng Shui can affect your pets as well as you, according to home wellness designer Tasia Keeng. In one of her cases, a pet owner had moved her dog’s bed for better airflow, but after that change, her dog stopped eating and sleeping and began jumping on the bed and barking continuously. Keeng explained that dogs require social interaction and especially need to be near their owners with a line of sight to them. 

• A study at Hungary's Eötvös Loránd University conducted in 2011-2013 and 2022-2023 found that dog owners rated their dogs higher for companionship and needing nurturing  than their closest relative, best friend, or romantic partner.
