• One way to tell if your dog is overweight is to feel for its ribs. If you can detect them without pressing too hard, then your dog isn’t too heavy.

• Actor Sally Fields has a Cavapoo named Dash after the late detective writer Dashiell Hammett. She got Dash just before the COVID shutdown began and says her relationship with him helped shape her character in Remarkably Bright Creatures. A Cavapoo is a cross between a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Toy or Miniature Poodle.

• Recent studies show some dogs perceive pitch and adjust their vocals so they can sing with their owners.

• Some number crunchers with too much time on their hands recently used the "golden ratio" - an algebraic equation long associated with beauty and art - to compare dogs’ faces. By measuring the ratio between the dogs’ ears, eyes, nostrils, and tongues, they found Dalmatians were technically the most beautiful breed - scoring a 67.03% on the golden ratio - followed by Irish Water Spaniels, Wire Fox Terriers, and Labradors.

• Results of a study published in the journal Anthrozös suggest that "dog people" rate higher on extraversion, agreeableness, and conscientiousness, but lower on neuroticism and openness, as compared to “cat people.”
