SWEET 16

This month’s issue is supported in part by SF Animal Medical Center and dog lovers like you.

Welcome to Bay Woof, March 2023

Bay Woof’s Sweet 16!

Hard to believe, but Bay Woof launched its first issue 16 years ago this month – and how sweet it is to still be here with you! Thank you for making us a part of your life-with-dog and for continuing to read and share the best dog news around. We wouldn’t - and couldn’t - be here without our beloved readers, writers, advertisers, and supporters of all breeds. We appreciate you, one and all!

Our March issue offers a smorgasbord of stories to get your spring off to a sprightly start. East Bay’s Peter Rodrigues tells the rescue tale of the feral Jojo and the village it took to bring this hard luck pup to safety.  Go Dog Pro’s Ren Volpe clues you in on how to use your dog’s name for more effective communication with your favorite pal. And Althea Karwowski of Sit Stay SF has the inside scoop on how to redirect undesired behavior by grabbing a toy instead.

Elsewhere in the issue, Sara Scott of Sara Scott Dog Training discusses the importance of canine consent in this month’s Good Dog! column. Cyd True of True Training 101 provides tips for harnessing your pet’s predation drive for better behavior in the Monthly Woof. And Dr. Ken of A Gentle Rest shares his views on the evolving discussion about the best age to spay or neuter your pet in Ask Dr. Dog

Meanwhile on the community beat, SF Animal Commission Chair Michael Angelo Torres has the latest update from SFCACW, including the return to in-person meetings at SF City Hall this month. And Humane Society Silicon Valley adds its voice to the call for foster homes to save the dogs overflowing shelters in the Bay Area and beyond.

As always, we round out the issue with those perennial faves. Nose for News wraps up the top dog headlines from near and far, Mr. Smarty Pants supplies dog factoids so handy to fill those awkward moments in the vet’s waiting room, and Red and Howling provides a comic tug on your pup-related heart strings.

May this 16th anniversary issue be a sweet treat for you and your dog-loving pals. Thanks for your continued support, and here’s hoping we all reach that 17th milestone together!

Doggedly yours,
