It’s been a few months since my good boy Jackson passed away. It's been tough, but there have also been moments of joy. These moments remind me how lucky I was to have him in my life. And how lucky that a body of Jackson-inspired artwork still remains all around our city.
A week after Jackson's passing, my Frenchie Macho and I headed down Polk Street and passed the mural by artist Serge Gay Jr. on Fern Alley. The mural depicts Jackson in my arms with me placing a crown of stars on his head. Jackson looks stoic and unbothered, as he always did. Suddenly Macho stopped, looked up at Jackson's face on the mural, and then turned to look at me. It was a magical moment.
Jackson was my little guy, but I also shared him with everyone. He was a muse to so many artists, with his adorable mug appearing on murals, posters, buttons, totes, T-shirts, and even tattoos. I’m endlessly grateful to my artistic friends who captured all of his attitude in a variety of media. And I’m grateful to Jackson for being part of my life.
I hope you enjoy this sampling of some Jackson-inspired works.
