What Is Mission K9 Rescue?
Mission K9 Rescue was founded in 2013 as a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing assistance and support for working dogs worldwide. Our mission focuses on retiring and retired Military Working Dogs (MWDs), Contract Working Dogs (CWDs), and other dogs that fit within our scope.
Through the generosity of donors and kind-hearted adopters who open their homes to these incredible animals, we have made a significant impact. In the past decade, we have rescued over 1,300 working dogs globally, reunited more than 680 dogs with their former handlers, and spent over $2 million on veterinary care for these hero dogs.
Headquartered in Houston, Texas, with satellite offices in San Antonio and Thousand Oaks, California, Mission K9 Rescue operates under Texas state laws and is recognized as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization by the IRS.
What Do We Do?
Mission K9 Rescue’s work focuses on the five Rs: Rescue, Reunite, Rehome, Rehabilitate, and Repair.
Rescue
Mission K9 Rescue is committed to saving CWDs, MWDs, and any other working dogs who need our help, whether they are overseas or in poor environments stateside. We believe that every working dog deserves a chance at a happy and healthy retirement.
Reunite
For retired working dogs with handlers who want them and have suitable homes, we work to make sure these reunions happen. Handlers always get first preference, and we handle the logistics of transporting the dogs to their former partners.
Rehome
When a retired working dog does not have a designated handler or one that is in a position to keep them, we work tirelessly to find the perfect, loving home for them. These dogs deserve to live out their days surrounded by care and affection.
Rehabilitate
Retired working dogs often face severe anxiety and stress due to their past experiences. Many suffer from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and need time to decompress and reintegrate into society. We work closely with these dogs to help them become suitable for adoption, providing the rehabilitation they need to thrive.
Repair
Working dogs train rigorously throughout their careers, much like professional athletes. Consequently, many retire with extensive medical issues that can be quite costly. Since these dogs do not receive retirement benefits, Mission K9 Rescue covers all their veterinary needs while they are in our care.
What Can You Do?
The success of Mission K9 Rescue relies heavily on the support of our community. Whether through donations, volunteering, or adopting a retired working dog, there are numerous ways you can contribute to our mission. Every contribution, no matter how small, makes a significant difference in the lives of these hero dogs.
By supporting Mission K9 Rescue, you are not just giving back to the dogs; you are honoring their service and dedication. These animals have worked tirelessly, often in dangerous and stressful conditions, to protect and serve. Now it's our turn to ensure they receive the care, love, and respect they so richly deserve.
