CDC Issues New Pet Pandemic Guidelines

The Centers for Disease Control still say there’s no evidence that pets play a significant role in the transmission of COVID-19 in the United States. Nevertheless, the CDC recently issued new stricter guidelines for humans and their pets.

  • Limit your pet’s interaction with anyone outside your household.

  • Keep cats indoors if possible and do not let them roam freely.

  • Walk dogs on a leash at least six feet from people outside their own households.

  • Do not attempt to put a mask on your pet.

  • Do not wipe or bathe your pet with any type of disinfecting product. There is no evidence of contracting coronavirus from fur, hair or skin.

  • Avoid public places where large numbers of people gather.

  • If you are sick with COVID-19, avoid contact with your pets and have another person care for them. If that’s not possible, wear a mask and wash your hands before and after you interact with them.

  • Contact your vet if your pet becomes ill.

  • Keep washing those hands!

CDC rules are a moving target, but Bay Woof will do its best to keep you up to date on any pet-related changes. Please check back often.
