About 700 years ago, the generic word for domesticated canines was "hound." The word "dog" referred to a subset of hounds that included the Mastiff.
You may have heard of Pig Latin, but did you know there was also Dog Latin? It's a humorous attempt to make up Latin-sounding words and phrases, often by “translating” a word from another language and conjugating it as if it were actual Latin. And it’s been around for centuries: the Finnish death metal band Omnium Gatherum gets its name from a butchered 1500s phrase meaning "a hodgepodge of various things."
When the U.K's Kennel Club was formed in 1873, it was the only organization of its kind and was named The Kennel Club. King Charles III recently renamed it The Royal Kennel Club, lest there be any confusion.
The Petrified Fur-Rest Bark Park is a recently opened dog park alongside the Painted Desert Visitor Center parking lot at the Petrified Forest in Arizona. It's the only official dog park inside a U.S. National Park.
