  • The Greek word for hunter is κυνηγος (kinigos), which means “dog-leader.”

  • Archeologists recently discovered an ancient dog tooth, which suggests evidence of a domesticated dog from 13,100 years ago - the oldest such evidence in the Americas. The tooth was found in a cave on an archipelago off British Columbia’s north coast.

  • Hungarian researchers have found that dogs react differently to various human languages. They can also tell when people speak nonsense words.

  • The following dog breeds are most likely to develop eye problems: Labrador Retriever, Springer Spaniel, Golden Retriever, Poodle, Siberian Husky, Boston Terrier, Collie, Great Dane, German Shepherd, and Bulldog.

  • The expression “dog days of summer” comes from the “dog star,” Sirius, which, in summer, is the brightest star in the sky besides the sun.
