  • Fleas have more than 1,400 genes.

  • Finland’s Helsinki airport boasts the world’s first sniffer dog program to detect COVID-19.  Dogs there have identified the virus in people without symptoms.  The U.S., France, and Germany are researching similar programs for eventual use in nursing homes, schools, or malls.

  • There’s a statue of Zorik the dog in Tallinn, Estonia. Zorik was a stray, and the statue is a tribute to all stray dogs.

     

  • Scientists at the National Institutes of Health report that the Chinese Crested Dog can be traced to the first dogs to populate the Americas 10,000 or more years ago.

  • Great Danes are not from Denmark. They’re actually from Germany.
