Anyone who’s ever loved a dog knows how much they mean to us. But for a family struggling financially, a pet’s unexpected illness or injury may force them to surrender a beloved animal simply because they cannot afford veterinary care.

San Francisco Aid for Animals (SFAfA) is an all-volunteer non-profit organization committed to ensuring that pets and their families in the Greater Bay Area remain together through life’s most challenging moments. Our mission is to make urgent, life-saving veterinary care affordable for families struggling to cover the costs who might otherwise have to surrender their pet.

Thanks to our generous donors and partners, there are so many stories of pets and families we've been able to help, like Poppy, an 11-year-old Chihuahua, who suffered a severe fracture after an encounter with a raccoon. With the support of Vets in Vans and our compassionate community, we funded Poppy's urgent surgery, leading to his inspiring recovery. Today, little Poppy continues to bring joy to his family, a testament to the resilience of animals and the power of collective support.

This summer, we're thrilled to invite you to our largest fundraising event of the year, the SFAfA Penthouse Pawty on Friday, August 16, from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., atop the Salesforce Tower at 415 Mission Street. Experience stunning views of San Francisco with delicious food and drink, a silent auction of exclusive items, and so much more. An RSVP is required so click here to learn more and reserve your spot!

Other Ways to Help

If you can’t make it to the Penthouse Pawty, there are many other ways to help. Donations may be made directly through the SFAfA website. We also encourage employer matching programs to maximize the impact of each contribution so ask if your workplace is a participant or would like to become one.

In addition, we offer a heartfelt way to honor beloved pets who have passed on with a legacy donation in memory of a special pet to help another animal in need. These donations are commemorated on our In Memory wall at SFAfA.org, where you may share a photo and message about your beloved pet. This initiative not only provides crucial support to other animals but also offers meaningful tributes to furry friends like Little Gray Tulip, Professor Theodore Bear, and Peeve, whose memories continue to inspire our mission.
